Blackall’s Cooper Hauff Wins Premier's Anzac Prize

Cooper receiving his award from Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Sunday 17/04/2016.
Blackall State School student, Cooper Hauff, is one of 8 students from state and non-state schools in Queensland awarded the Premier’s 2016 Anzac Prize.
Cooper will attend the Dawn Service at Gallipoli and tour parts of Belgium and France.
“I am honoured to have been chosen and the day I found out, was the happiest day of my life,” said 13 year old Cooper.
“I still can’t believe that out of all the entries, mine was on the eight chosen, it will be such a surreal thing to be at Anzac Cove, it is a great opportunity for us all, who have been chosen,” he said.
Cooper’s entry included the story of Blackall born and past Blackall State School student, Sister Greta Norman Towner. Sister Towner’s story was investigated by students at the school in 2015.
The Premier’s Anzac Prize competition required students to produce an original, two to five minute multimedia presentation exploring how the Anzac tradition has shaped Australia, why it’s still important and how future generations can keep the tradition alive.
The judging panel included Anzac descendants and current members of the Australian Defence Force.
“Our school is incredibly proud of Cooper’s achievement,  he is the second student from our school to be awarded a position on the Premier’s Anzac Prize tour, with Bayley Williams attending on the 2015 tour. It speaks to the involvement of our students with remembering ANZAC,” said Principal, Paul Stehbens.
Cooper will be required to continue his learning about the Anzacs through research tasks and journals  in 2016 as well as various learning experiences whilst on tour with the 7 other students and 2 Chaperones.
