Organisation of school
Blackall State School is organised into 3 phases of learning, Early (Prep – Year 3), Middle (Year 4 – Year 9) and Senior (Year 10 – Year 12).
Early Phase
The Early Phase provides a multi-age program that caters for children in their first 4 years of schooling (Preparatory, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3).
The Early Phase Curriculum is organised into 5 learning areas, Social and Personal learning, Health and Physical Learning, Language Learning & Communication, Early Mathematical understandings and Active Learning Processes.
We provide a challenging environment where students’ individual interests and learning needs are catered for through a wide variety of small group activities. Learning experiences within the Junior School can be: play-based, hands on, real life and purposeful, active, fun, innovative and work to encourage social and emotional competence.
Middle Phase
Our Middle Phase is organised from Year 4 to Year 9 and aims to provide quality education to students at this special stage in their lives. During Years 5, 6 and 7 students consolidate the skills and processes learned in the Junior School and develop new skills necessary for successful completion of their Middle School years. In the final years of middle schooling students develop more skills in specialist areas and are allowed to begin choosing the direction their studies will take in their senior years of schooling.
All students work with care group teachers who work hard at developing a sound relationship with all students in this class to ensure a sense of belonging for each child. Our care group teachers aim to work with your and your child to help them develop all aspects of your child, as reflected in our school vision.
Senior Phase
Our Senior Phase sees students complete their school based education at Blackall State School over the final 3 years of school. Years 10 – 12 students at this stage are ready for a different educational experience than that of middle schooling. During Year 10, students sample senior subjects to identify the direction of their final 2 years of senior. Year 11 and 12 are equally important as work from both years may contribute to a student’s final overall level of achievement at the completion of senior.
Students in Years 11 and 12 may choose to complete a course of:
study leading into direct university entrance
study leading into entry to TAFE or the work force
study that includes a school based traineeship or apprenticeship leading into a full time traineeship or apprenticeship on completion of Year 12; or which may assist them with further study options.
Some students may elect to combine the options above to create individualised course that allow for maximum choices upon school completion. Other students may choose to study subjects via distance education or through virtual schooling whilst completing schooling at Blackall State School.
