Outback college of hospitality
In July 2011, The Big Red Truck finally arrived. After three years of planning, applications and construction, the Federal Government funded Trade Training Centre arrived at Longreach State High School.
The Trade Training Centre services five schools, Aramac State School, Winton State School, Blackall State School, Barcaldine State School and Longreach State High School which is the lead school.
The main purpose of the truck is to provide training for our students in a Certificate I, II and III in Hospitality. Other certificates will be offered in future such as Event Management and short courses will be available including Responsible Service of Alcohol and Barista.
All Trade Training Centres in Australia are buildings so this Trade Training Centre is unique in that it is a prime mover B double truck. The A part of the trailer comprises generator, walk-in cold room and storage whilst the B Part is a fully equipped, state of the art, commercial kitchen. The truck comes equipped with enough crockery, cutlery, table and chairs to cater for 300 people. The truck can be used for community events.
The Recognition Ceremony will be held on February 21, 2012 at 12 noon and be officially opened by Senator John Hogg. A plaque displaying the details of the project will be on display in the school’s administration building.
The Trade Training Centre has visited all five schools and students have had the opportunity to use the kitchen and cater for events.
