Blackall State School caters for pupils with a range of educational needs including pupils with learning difficulties and pupils with disabilities. Students with Disabilities are registered and enrolled at Blackall State School. These students have a diagnosis and have a verified disability under Education Queensland criteria. An EAP profile guides schools in recording the educational activities undertaken to support Students with Disabilities.
Blackall State School is staffed with a Students With Disabilities teacher. This teacher, along with the help of Teacher Aides, assist in the successful integration of students with disabilities into the mainstream school setting. Staff in the SWD area also support classroom teachers in the processes necessary to include students into their classes and maximise their success within the curriculum.
Working alongside a range of professionals, we endeavour to meet the individual needs of all our pupils. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum with high expectations for both pupils and staff. Strong links with the local community, further enrich the educational opportunities available to our pupils.
Each student identified with disabilities receives an Individual Education Plan to meet the goals for the particular student.
Over the past years the physical layout of the school has been modified to cater for disabled students with ramps, lifts, and personal toilet facilities. Staff receive professional development in manual handling procedures, and participate in meetings with professional specialists. Students with Disabilities who are in Years 11 and 12 are eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement.
